  • He was one of the best known Flemish writers during the first period of the 20th century. His works were translated in 16 languages. He was also a painter and a drawer. He illustrated his own publications and also the works of other writers as Tony Bergmann and Ernest Claes. His books are, together with these of Gerard Walschap, Ernest Claes and Stijn Streuvels most filmed in Belgium and the Netherlands.
