Biography

Bill Thompson was born on July 8, 1913 in Terre Haute, Indiana, USA. He was an actor, known for Lady and the Tramp (1955), Peter Pan (1953) and Sleeping Beauty (1959). He was married to Mary Elizabeth McBride. He died on July 15, 1971 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

His "Droopy"-ish voice, he used in most of his characters is where his fame originated.

He died a year after the release of The Aristocats (1970), his final acting role.

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Radio at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.

Served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Had portrayed Horatio K. Boomer, Nick Depopoulous, the Old-Timer, Vodka, Uncle Dennis and Wallace Whimple on NBC Radio's "Fibber McGee and Molly" during the 1930s and 1940s. His character Whimple had the same voice as his later cartoon creation Droopy Dog.

He has appeared in two films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: Lady and the Tramp (1955) & Sleeping Beauty (1959).
