- Was part of the inner circle of Walt Disney Studios animators, known as the "nine old men". The other members were Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, Marc Davis, Eric Larson, Wolfgang Reitherman, Ward Kimball, John Lounsbery and Les Clark.).
- Suffered a stroke in 1996, but it did not impair his speech or mental abilities, as evidenced in TV and DVD interviews of the period.
- Enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in December, 1942, was discharged on January 23, 1946 and rehired at Disney on April 1, 1946.

Then he'd say this is Frank Thomas who animated the stepmother. The audience would go, "ugh". I told Walt we needed to get another picture because I couldn't stand it.
