Went to the very prestigious public school Westminster School and was friends with Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish and future Liberal Democrats leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Several years below Clegg, Louis had the job of waking him up in the morning with a newspaper (part of an old public school tradition often called 'fagging' where younger pupils act as servants to older ones).

Married his first wife to help her get a US work permit. Although a long-term couple, they never considered it a real marriage and Louis kept it private, only referring to her as his girlfriend in public.

Is often mistaken for a Frenchman by people only reading his name (since both his first and last name are French) and as solely British by people listening to him talk.

Obtained 1st Class Honours in Modern History at Oxford University.

Has a brother, Marcel Theroux, who is two years older than Louis and was born in Uganda. Marcel is a writer and journalist.

His French last name originates from the region around Sarthe and Yonne in France. It is quite common in Francophone countries and is originally spelled Théroux. His American-born father is of half French-Canadian and half Italian descent. His mother is English.

Lives in Harlesden, London with his wife Nancy and sons Albert, Frederick and Walter.
