  • Smita Thackeray is an Indian film producer and social activist associated with the Hindi and Marathi film industries. She founded Rahul Productions and the Mukkti Foundation. She entered film production with Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999) and later produced Hum Jo Keh Na Paaye (2005), Sandwich (2006), Kaisay Kahein (2007), and Society Kaam Se Gayi (2011).From 2001 to 2003, Thackeray served as the first female President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA). During her tenure, the organization worked on issues including video piracy and agreements with cable television operators. She also supported welfare initiatives for film industry workers.

    She has received recognition for her work in film production and social service, including an Appreciation Award from the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association in 2008, the News Makers Achievement Award in 2010, and the Women's Prerna Award in 2013.

    She was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to Madhukar and Kunda Chitre. She studied at Chhabildas Girls' High School, Dadar, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Genetics from Ruparel College. She also received training in classical Marathi music during her childhood. Thackeray began her career at Centaur Hotel before launching the fashion boutique NARI.

    In 1997, she established the Mukkti Foundation, an organization working in HIV/AIDS awareness, drug abuse prevention, women's empowerment, education, and community welfare. The foundation has organized fundraising events and public awareness campaigns involving members of the Indian film industry. She is the mother of Rahul Thackeray and Aaishvary Thackeray.
