Biography

Silvio Tendler was born in 1950 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was a director and writer, known for Jango (1984), Os Anos JK - Uma Trajetória Política (1980) and Glauber: O Filme, Labirinto do Brasil (2003). He died on September 5, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Protested against the arrest of Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, detained on 1 March 2010 and held in ward 209 of the Evin prison.

Been a professor at the Department of Social Communication at PUC-Rio since 1979.

From a Jewish family with Ukrainian and Bessarabian roots, he lived in Tijuca and Copacabana, in addition to living in Chile and Paris.

Began his film making career in the cineclub movement in the 1960s, leading the Federation of Film Clubs of Rio in 1968.

Had been facing diabetic neuropathy for 10 years, a disease that harms the nervous system.
