Clyde R. Taylor is a well-respected American film scholar, writer, and cultural critic who has made significant contributions to the fields of cinema studies and African American studies. Taylor coined the term "L.A. Rebellion", codifying a film movement of independent and alternative filmmakers of color in the 1970s. At a time when independent film in America was in its nascence, Taylor noted and identified a new wave of independent filmmakers.
