Gisela Tantau

A supporting actress of surprisingly sparse output, whose career as a featured player on the screen spanned just over a decade. A Hamburg native, Gisela Tantau trained for ballet and studied drama in her home town and then acted on the stage between 1955 and 1962 in Germany and Switzerland. The ever-astute director Helmut Käutner discovered her in 1947 while casting for his episodic 'Trümmerfilm' Seven Journeys (1947). In her next few screen outings, Gisela tended to play juveniles, notably in Nacht der Entscheidung (1956) and Ich und meine Schwiegersöhne (1956). She also appeared in the Frank Wisbar-directed war drama Fabrik der Offiziere (1960), her relatively minor role being the girlfriend of Helmut Griem's idealistic officer. Gisela rounded off her career guesting in a handful of TV episodes, disappearing from public view after 1980.
