Biography

Igor Talankin was born on October 3, 1927 in Bogorodsk, Moscow Governorate, Russian SFSR, USSR [now Noginsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia]. He was a writer and director, known for Serge (1960), Vstuplenie (1963) and Tchaikovsky (1970). He was married to Lilia Mikhailovna. He died on July 24, 2010 in Moscow, Russia.

Teacher at the Moscow Film Institute (VGIK). One of his students was Bakhtyar Khudojnazarov.

The other Talankin's students are Svetlana Druzhinina and Karen Shakhnazarov (Russian SFSR), Sergio Olhovich (Mexico), Georgi Djulgerov (Bulgaria).

Father of Dmitri Talankin.

Igor Talankin was a Soviet and Russian film director and screenwriter.

His film Splendid Days (1960, co-directed with Georgiy Daneliya) won the Crystal Globe (the main award) at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and Tchaikovsky (1969) was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
