- Was awarded two Bronze Stars and five Purple Hearts for action in World War II.
- Appears in bit parts in each of Barry Levinson's first 15 films. Levinson called him his "lucky charm."
- Although born in San Antonio, he was reared in New Orleans and Richmond, Va.
- Engineer for Federal Aviation Administration before he took up acting.

- He is survived by two daughters: Bonnie Tabakin of North Potomac, Md. and Suzanne Taxin, of Sedona, Az.; two sisters; and a granddaughter.
