Biography

Giorgio Strehler was born on August 14, 1921 in Barcola, Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. He was a writer and director, known for La tempesta (1981), Die Sommerfrische (1965) and Die Entführung aus dem Serail (1967). He was married to Rosita Lupi and Andrea Jonasson. He died on December 25, 1997 in Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland.

One of Italy's best known stage directors and one of the leading Shakespearean of his time.

President of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 1982.
