Jean-Pierre Stora in Boulevard Voltaire (2017)

Biography

Jean-Pierre Stora

Overview

  • Born
    January 1, 1938 · Algiers, Algeria

Biography

  • Jean-Pierre Stora is the cousin of Guy Gilles.

In addition to his work as a music composer and photographer, Jean-Pierre Stora practiced as a lawyer at the Paris Bar for 38 years. He studied law at the Faculty of Algiers before taking his oath in Paris in 1962. He is now an honorary member of the same bar.

Since the end of 2000, he has devoted himself exclusively to musical composition and photography.

He began composing at the age of 13, quickly receiving encouragement from Georges Brassens, who followed his musical career.

In 1962, he wrote his first film score for Love at Sea (1965), directed by Gilles. This film won various prizes in Hyères, Pesaro (Italy), etc.

From then on, his musical career took on various forms: cinema, theatre and, of course, song.

From 1962 to 1968, he worked as a journalist and photographer for the magazines Cinémonde, Music-Hall and Interviews.

Signed his first film scores under the name Jean-Pierre Sarot, and published a number of articles in magazines such as "Cinémonde" and "Music-Hall" under the same pseudonym. His works have been interpreted by Grace Kelly, Macha Méril, Jeanne Moreau, Judith Magre and others.

He reverted to his real name after composing music for the feature film Le clair de terre (1970), another Guy Gilles picture. He later worked with Alexandre Vallès and Rémi Lange.
