Biography

Gregory Stone was considered to be a brilliant pianist and composer, as can be seen by his many credits. Born in Odessa, Russia in 1900, he migrated to the United States around 1917 after the Russian Revolution. He lived in worked in New York, where he worked for the T. B. Harms Publishing House, creating many arrangements for Broadway shows.

He met his wife, Ingebord, when he toured with the Ice Capades show as conductor. Ingebord was a principal skater with the Ice Capades.

The Stones moved to Southern California, where Gregory began scoring and arranging music for movies studios. In doing so, he amassed an impressive orchestral library that played an important role in his creation and the founding a symphony orchestra in Reno, Nevada.

Through his work in Southern California, he developed friendships with many studio musicians. A Reno violinist saw opportunity in Reno, Nevada because there was no symphony orchestra, but the town was unique. There were many exceptional musicians living in Reno, playing in world-class casino house orchestras who backed up the mainstream show room acts. Stone seized the opportunity and relocated in Reno, where he established the Reno Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in 1969.

In 1936 he composed and conducted music for Max Reinhardt's production of "Faust" in Los Angeles.

Moved to The United States in 1923. After his Hollywood career, he moved to South America.
