  • The widow of Donald E. Stewart found the Hostiles (2017) script when moving houses. Stewart, who died in 1999, had not shipped the manuscript to any studios, and his wife was surprised to come across it. After seeing Crazy Heart (2009) and Out of the Furnace (2013), she felt that Scott Cooper was the right man to shepherd it towards the screen.
  • A lifelong car enthusiast, he founded, edited and co-published "Competition Press" later known as AutoWeek in the 1950s, a weekly car racing magazine. Prior to his screenwriting career, he also variously worked as editor of Motor Life magazine and as creative director of the Fletcher-Richards advertising agency.
