Mini bio

  • Dean Stewart is a native Californian born in Pomona and raised in Pasadena. As a junior and senior at Pasadena High School, he played lead roles in the senior-class theatre productions and was hooked. The following year, at Pasadena City College, he played Eugene Marchbanks in George Bernard Shaw's Candida. Dean's career as an actor has included more than twenty-five guest-star/co-star roles. His training includes The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute with teachers Peggy Feury and Bill Traylor, The Actors Studio where since 1976 he has continued his study as a lifetime member, The Groundlings, The Second City, and UCB.

In 2006, Dean graduated with honors from Santa Monica College with a major in Theatre. Acting at SMC included multiple roles in both The Laramie Project and Cabaret. As a member of Phi Theta Kappa while at SMC he won the national PTK Citation scholarship for his short story Pain. The story was published in the PTK Nota Bene literary journal. Other writings include stage plays produced in four consecutive years of the New Works Festival at College of the Canyons, short stories, and poems. Two of his plays from New Works were published in anthologies and one, Rain Check, received an 8th place award in the 2009 Writer's Digest's competition. Dean also served as Assistant Director on the CoC production of A Raisin in the Sun. In 2016 he graduated from CoC with honors and associate degrees in Music Composition and English.

Other interests include tennis, music, mountaineering, and thirty-plus years as an American Red Cross disaster volunteer. Dean is an amateur saxophone player, plays some piano and occasionally writes a tune.

Mountaineering skills began with the Sierra Club where he trained through several levels of Mountaineering and Leadership. The training was primarily taken to facilitate a childhood dream of climbing Mount Whitney from the west, a seventy mile backpack trip from Crescent Meadow in Sequoia National Park. The successful trip with his younger brother, Edwin, lasted eleven days, three of which included fresh-off-their-lines trout dinners at Upper Hamilton Lake and the Kern River. Dean continues his love for the outdoors - hiking and climbing lower mountains these days.
