Biography

As a dubbing artist he has lent his voice to Ernest Borgnine, Anthony Quinn, Michel Piccoli and Walter Pidgeon as well as numerous cartoon characters from children's and youth series such as Inspector Gadget (as his opponent Dr. Claw), The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin (as his father Burl Ruxpin), The Thousand Years Queen (as the chief of the thieves), When the Animals Left the Forest (as Badger), Galaxy Rangers (as Waldo, the Andorian ambassador), Janna (Grandpa Nowak) and Sesame Street (as Telly).

He was also a regular cast member in several series for several years, including from 1987 to 1990 as Walter Ambusch in the ZDF saga Das Erbe der Guldenburgs, from 1991 to 1994 as Felix Junklers in UnserHagenbecks and as the grumpy innkeeper Ludwig in the medical series Freunde fürs Leben.

Franz Josef Steffens was a German stage, film and television actor.

Franz-Josef Steffens, originally from Beckum in Westphalia, began his professional career in the late 1940s after completing professional acting training. Further stage appearances included Mannheim, Cologne, Vienna, Berlin, the Bad Hersfeld Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

He remained devoted to radio plays well into old age. The last productions in which Franz-Josef Steffens participated were the mystery radio play Blackout by Frank Gustavus (Ripper Records) in 2003, Sven Stricker's Oliver Twist (Der Hörverlag) in 2005, and most recently the episode "Gekauftes Spiel" (Bought Game) of the youth radio play series TKKG (Europa) in 2006.
