Nikos Stavridis(1910-1987)

Nikos Stavridis was a Greek stage and film actor celebrated as one of the leading comic performers of postwar Greek entertainment. He began his career in musical theater in 1929, appearing in revues, operettas, and variety shows before establishing his own theatrical companies during the 1940s. Throughout his stage career, he collaborated with many of Greece's most popular performers, including Rena Vlahopoulou, the Kalouta sisters, Marika Nezer, Dionysis Papagiannopoulos, Sofia Vempo, and Kostas Hatzihristos, becoming a prominent figure in Greek musical comedy. Stavridis made his film debut in Come to Daddy... (1950) and went on to appear in numerous popular comedies, working with directors such as Nikos Tsiforos, Orestis Laskos, Alekos Sakellarios, Grigoris Grigoriou, Panos Glykofrydis, and Kostas Andritsos. Among his best-known films are Poverty Wants to Have a Good Time (1958), The Yellow Gloves (1960), Sharp as a Needle (1961), Triti kai 13 (1963), and O hazobabas (1967). Known for his energetic performances, expressive comic timing, and distinctive screen presence, Stavridis remained a beloved figure of Greek cinema and theater for decades, leaving behind an enduring legacy in the country's classic comedies.
