Biography

Kinnie Starr was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is known for Thirteen (2003), Hip Hop Pills 1.Z (2015) and Edge of the Knife (2018).

Nominated for "New Artist of the Year" at the 2004 Juno Awards

She is of Mohawk, Dutch, German and Irish heritage.

When I listen back to my older stuff, I realize that I sounded kind of angry. But I'm happier now I look forward to getting up in the morning, that's why the album's called Sun Again.

It really strikes me - the more mature I become as an artist, the more I study my craft - that the ability to make art in quiet places, and to take your art with you where you go, is a major gift. It's really amazing to find roots wherever you are and to think 'I belong here'.

Queer cultures are leading cultures. Native culture is the same way. Women's culture as well.I have an allegiance to the queer community also because I've been in love with women. I know what it feels like to be afraid to kiss my girlfriend in a parking lot because I don't want my teeth knocked out.
