Trivia

  • On Jan. 20, 2000, Star (a.k.a. Kathryn Gannon) was indicted along with companion James McDermott Jr., in a New York City federal court on multiple counts of securities fraud. It was alleged that McDermott, the CEO of an investment banking firm that did business on Wall Street, was her lover and passed on inside information to Star, who used it to make more than $88,000. She was released on $300,000 bail. In 2002 she pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy involving insider trading. She told US District Judge Richard Rowen that "I knew what I was doing was wrong". Rowen decided to show leniency because she had pleaded guilty and because McDermott only spent five months in prison for his involvement in the crime, and sentenced her to three months in a federal womens penitentiary in Danbury, CT.
