- Douglas Squires was born on February 16, 1932 in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, England, UK. He was a producer and actor, known for The Rolf Harris Show (1967), Hi! Summer (1977) and Man in a Suitcase (1967). He was married to Antony Johns. He died on May 21, 2023.

- He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to the Performing Arts. He was a choreographer and director.

No longer was it necessary to be regimented by height, weight or colour - the more individual the better (the beautiful Chinese dancer Wei Wei Wong was one of the most popular members). Families all over the country saw the possibility that their offspring could stand a chance of becoming a member of the popular Young Generation and later the 2nd Generation. Nowadays it would be unusual if a dance group was not multi-cultural, but at that time - before Hot Gossip and other star dance groups, The Young Generation stood alone. Groups all over Europe sprang up to try and emulate the success of the trail blazing group.
