  • He is a graduate of the Centro Sperimentale Di Cinematografía, Cinecittá, Rome, Italy, of which he was a student of Gianni Amelio, Carlo Di Palma, Furio Scarpelli and Roberto Perpignani. He was a professor at the University of Buenos Aires and at the National School of Cinematographic Experimentation and Production (ENERC).

    He directed works of fiction for television such as Bajamar, Poliladron, Zona de Riesgo and Cosecharás tu siembra, for which he was awarded the Konex Award as the best TV director of the decade.

    He directed documentaries such as El angel sin techo, La palabra viva, the audiovisual works Balada para un Kaiser Carabela, with Luis Alberto Spinetta, Ciudad de pobres corazones y Solo los chicos, with Fito Páez .

    In 1998 he released the film La Sonámbula, written together with Ricardo Piglia and Fabián Bielinsky, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, its European premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and won awards in Havana, Toulouse, Nantes and the Silver Condor Awards from the Argentine Association of Cinematographic Chroniclers.

    In 2005 he premiered Adiós, querida Luna, a film with the awards he won at the La Plata International Film Festival and at the Estepona Fantastic Film Festival, Spain.

    His film Aballay, the man without fear, based on the short story Aballay, by Antonio Di Benedetto, won international awards, eight South Awards from the Argentine Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including "Best Director", three awards Silver Condor of the Argentine Association of Cinematographic Chroniclers, and was selected to represent the country at the Oscars for Best Foreign Film.

    In 2015, together with Ana Piterbarg, he made the three-part series Los Siete Locos y los Lanzallamas, about the novels by Roberto Arlt, adapted by Ricardo Piglia, which won multiple awards and had eight nominations for the Martín Fierro Award.

    On the film La Boya, nominated by the Argentine Film Academy as the best documentary film 2018, was the winner of the Sea Film Festival, in Punta del Este, and the International Film Festival of the Heights, in Jujuy.

    In the last film, Immortal, it had its world premiere in the official Sitges competition, Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantástic de Catalunya.

    He was General Producer and Artistic Director of the 28th and 29th Mar del Plata International Film Festival.

    His works are objects of study and retrospectives in museums, universities and festivals around the world.
