Biography

Werner Spies was born on April 1, 1937 in Tübingen, Germany. He is a writer, known for Diese Frau zum Beispiel (1968), Ganze Tage in den Bäumen (1968) and Eine aufregende kleine Frau (1969).

German journalist, historian and art expert, best known for organizing expositions comprised of Pablo Picasso's sculptures and the work of his good friend Max Ernst.

First German to become chief executive of Centre Pompidou in Paris from 1997 to 2000.

As he has lived in Paris since 1962, he got to know many important artists and authors such as Marguerite Duras or Samuel Beckett.
