Dennis is an Emmy Award winning Lyricist and multiple nominee.
Throughout his career he has worked with some of the most prominent
film and television composers. His lyrics range from the song score to
the Michael Caine movie "Blame It On Rio" to the theme for the long
running "Zorro" series on The Family Channel. He has written lyrics for
musical segments of "Xena, Warrior Princess" as well as the theme song
for the Robert Conrad television series "High Mountain Ranger". His
songs have been sung by such diverse artists as B.J. Thomas, Richie
Havens, Lee Greenwood, Judy Collins and Chicago. His Emmy Award winning
song was sung by the character played by Julianne Moore in the HBO
Original film "Cast A Deadly Spell" which was directed by Martin
Campbell and produced by Gale Anne Hurd. Some of his other films
include the IMAX classic "T-Rex, Back to the Cretaceous" and the
popular action/adventure movie "Warriors of Virtue". He also penned the
lyric for the song "How Long Is Loneliness" in the television version
of "Member of the Wedding" which starred Alfre Woodard and Anna
Pacquin.
Dennis wrote the lyric for the title song of the film "Alone Yet Not Alone". For that project he was asked to write a song which would be as inspirational as Amazing Grace for a story which was set in 1755 America. This was a time in history before Amazing Grace ever existed. Parts of his title song were sung throughout the film by different characters and then a version, sung by Joni Eareckson Tada, was played over the End Credits. The song continues to be sung in many churches and a popular eight part "a capella" version recorded by the English artist Sam Robson has gained international acclaim.
Dennis has also written commissioned chorale works with Academy Award nominated composer Bruce Broughton as well as musical theatre works with multiple Academy Award nominee Laurence Rosenthal. He continues to be active as a lyricist in film, television and theater.
Dennis is one of the Founding Members of The Society of Composers and Lyricists. He is one of only four people who have been awarded their Honorary Lifetime Award. Two of the other three recipients are Clint Eastwood and the legendary film composer John Williams.
