Biography

Wilbur Smith was born on January 9, 1933 in Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia (now Kabwe, Zambia). He was a writer, known for Dark of the Sun (1968), Shout at the Devil (1976) and Gold (1974). He was married to Mokhiniso Rakhimova, Danielle Thomas, Jewell Slabbert and Anne Rennie. He died on November 13, 2021 in Cape Town, South Africa.

A bestselling author of adventure fiction, Smith became a full-time writer in 1964. Later, he would finance expeditions in Africa and Alaska.

Quite frankly, I think political correctness is the worst form of censorship. You're not allowed to speak your mind unless you're black, or unless you're a terrorist, or unless you're an Arab or a minority people. Then you can say what you like. But if you are like a lot of us you are not supposed to say certain things.

What I like about writing is the sense of godlike power it gives you. You can take up lives and squander them, you can fight battles, you can commit gang rapes - and you haven't hurt anybody.
