- Tucker Smith was born on April 24, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was an actor, known for West Side Story (1961), The Producers (1967) and To Be or Not to Be (1983). He died on December 22, 1988 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
- In Gilda Radner's autobiography "It's Always Something" she mentions her excitement at having Smith, her heartthrob from when she was a girl, in her cancer support group.
- Tucker Smith did NOT play the role of Ice on Broadway since the character was not even in the original stage production. The role of Ice was created for the film. Smith did appear on Broadway as a replacement in the roles of Riff, Diesel, and as one of the Jets.
- Thomas 'Tucker' Smith was named 'Tucker' after the nursery rhyme, 'Little Tommy Tucker'. Tucker sang as a child and his sisters teased him with the rhyme, 'Little Tommy Tucker sings for his supper.' Tucker became his name after that.
