  • Susan Arnout Smith is the 2018 Grand Prize winner for The Faith in Film International Screenwriting Award. Her screenplay, GOD'S PHOTO ALBUM, is adapted from the book, God's Photo Album, (by Shelly Mecum.) Smith has the option agreement rights for this project and is actively beginning to assemble the team to produce GOD'S PHOTO ALBUM as a motion picture. Dennis Brown is serving as mentor for this project.

    Her thrillers, THE TIMER GAME and OUT AT NIGHT, have been published by major houses in the US and translated into other languages. They both feature a forensic crime specialist with the San Diego Police Crime labs, Grace Descanso.

    Her novel, THE FROZEN LADY, about the birth of Alaska, was published by Arbor House and Zebra Books and was a best seller in Alaska, her home state.

    Susan Arnout Smith is a third generation Alaskan, now living in San Diego.

    She is also a nationally award winning playwright, (The Stanley Drama Award, and the Shiras/Mildred and Albert Panowski Playwriting Award: BEAST), and has been a playwright at the National Playwrights' Conference, Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, (DIFFERENT.)

    She has the distinction of having written only four scripts for television and having them all produced, while being over forty and never living in Hollywood. (DIFFERENT: Lifetime; ANOTHER WOMAN'S HUSBAND, Lifetime; DYING TO BE PERFECT: THE ELLEN HART PENA Story, ABC; LOVE LESSONS, CBS.) DIFFERENT was a finalist for a Pen-West, a Hollywood Access Award Nominee and was a TV Guide Editor's choice.

    Her newest play, SEPARATION RAPID, was commissioned by the Chenango River Theatre, Greene, New York, Bill Lelbach, directing, and featuring Kate Hamill as Bessie Hyde.

    She was also an essayist for NPR, Weekend Edition-Sunday for a decade.
