Charles Smith was born on September 13, 1920 in Flint, Michigan, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for The Shop Around the Corner (1940), Target (1958) and Everglades! (1961). He died on December 26, 1988 in Burbank, California, USA.

American character actor of the 1940s and '50s, often in buffoonish roles. Best remembered as Dizzy in the Henry Aldrich series of films.

Reliable character and bit-part actor whose earnest performances enhanced scores of films and TV episodes, notably Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), A Guy Named Joe (1943) in which he played a very homesick soldier) and The Shop Around the Corner (1940).

Played in two versions of the same story: "Rudy," the new messenger boy, in The Shop Around the Corner (1940), and a member of the barbershop quartet in the engagement party scene in the musical remake, In the Good Old Summertime (1949), nine years later.

Smith has the distinction of being the only actor who appeared in both a Hardy family film for M-G-M (Andy Hardy's Private Secretary) and all nine of Paramount's rival Henry Aldrich movies (as Henry's best friend "Dizzy").
