Cousin of Ahmet Zappa, with whom she starred in Pump Up the Volume (1990). Her other cousins are Diva Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, and Moon Unit Zappa. Lala is also the niece of Frank Zappa.

Tried out for, but did not get, the role of "Casey" in Prayer of the Rollerboys (1990); this would have been her third film with Corey Haim, who personally recommended Lala for the part. Said role ultimately went to Patricia Arquette.

Auditioned, and was considered, for the leading role of Chris Parker with 1987's "Adventures in Babysitting". She lost out to Elisabeth Shue.

Lala remains active with various movie productions, most recently as a costumer (aptly, since her mom is a dress designer). (October 2006)

Has a daughter named Lula Henrietta (Lu Henry); the name combines that of Jodie Foster's character from Bugsy Malone (1976) with Lala's mother's middle name. Another the names Lala considered for her baby (while expecting), before deciding on that one, was "Calliope".

Is a real-life military brat; father John Sloatman III is a second-generation USMC officer.

Is the sole child of her parents' marriage, but has numerous half-siblings on both sides of her family. Lala enjoys an outstanding relationship with her brothers and sisters, to the point that she avoids using the term "step" to describe them.

Claims that, initially, viewing "The Turning Point" (1977) inspired her to become an actress.

As a teenager, she moved in with her uncle Frank Zappa and his family at their insistence...after being struck by a car which broke her ankle. Frank believed his niece could receive better medical treatment in Los Angeles than she would in Santa Barbara, where the accident occurred.

In addition to being an actress and a fashion stylist, she has worked at the following jobs: mini-broker; barista; waitress at a French restaurant; keyword seller for search engines; chiropractor's office; Brooks Brothers sales associate.

Has said that she would love to be in a Quentin Tarantino film.

Worked with Oscar-winning director William Friedkin as a nanny for his sons. Yet she never appeared in any of Friedkin's movies.

Once injured herself while surfing, when her leg was slit by the board's fin. She still has a 6-inch scar from the mishap.
