Jose Rubens Siqueira was a Brazilian author, translator, theater director, set designer and costume designer. He gained prominence in São Paulo theater from the 1980s onwards.

In 2001, he adapted for the stage the monumental play Os Lusíadas, directed by Iacov Hillel and produced by Ruth Escobar.

In Brazil, he won several awards at the Gramado, Brasília and Belém Film Festivals.

His partnership with director Francisco Medeiros generated several award-winning shows, including the children's play Tronodocrono, Simon, and the important Artaud, o Espírito do Teatro .

José Rubens Siqueira worked in the arts for over 50 years. In the theater, he was responsible for writing and directing dozens of plays.

He has published the books Viver de Teatro (Nova Alexandria) and Tronodocrono (Companhia das Letras).

José Rubens Siqueira left a significant legacy in Brazilian theater, being remembered for his contributions as an author, translator and director, as well as his work as a set and costume designer.

In the 1960s and 1970s, his film career led his animated films to represent Brazil at Film Festivals in Germany, Tehran, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and also in the former Soviet Union .

In addition to his theatrical work, Siqueira was dedicated to literature, having translated authors such as J. M. Coetzee, Isaac Bashevis Singer and Toni Morrison, Nobel Prize winners, as well as the Indian Salman Rushdie and the Cuban Pedro Juan Gutiérrez, among others.

His first notable work in theater was directing O Cordão Umbilical , the debut text by Mário Prata .
