Was appointed an OBE in 1994.

In the late 1960s she was briefly engaged to Top of the Pops (1964) presenter and Radio 1 DJ Pete Murray. She has also had brief affairs with Albert Finney and Blue Peter (1958) co-presenter Peter Purves.

She was trained at the Arts Educational School at Tring.
