Mona Simpson was born on June 14, 1957 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. She is a writer, known for Anywhere But Here (1999), The Hidden Room (1991) and Charlie Rose (1991). She was previously married to Richard Appel.

She is the biological sister of Steve Jobs, being the second child of Joanne Schieble and Abdulfattah Jandali. Unlike Jobs, who was put up for adoption, Mona was raised by her biological parents until they divorced when she was five, and later took her stepfather's last name, Simpson. Simpson and Jobs did not meet until 1986, and became close friends.

The character of Mona Simpson on The Simpsons (1989) was named after her. Her husband, Richard Appel, was a writer on the show.
