Ljubomir Simovic was a Serbian writer, playwright, scriptwriter, and academic.

Ljubomir Simovic wrote four plays. They have been performed on many of our stages, as well as abroad.

In 1996 he published "A chronicle, which is occasionally a novel, or a novel, which is occasionally a chronicle" about his hometown called "Uzice with the Crows" (Serbian: Uzice sa vranama).

Ljubomir Simovic was also engaged in art criticism and his book "Reading Paintings" is a valuable contribution to the history of Serbian contemporary art. The book was also made into a television series, produced by the RTS Culture Department in 2013-2014.

Simovic is the winner of the most important literary awards for poetry, drama and essay writing.

He spent his working life as an editor in the cultural editorial office of Radio Belgrade.

His works have been translated into almost all European languages and his plays were performed in almost all theatres in Serbia.

Since October 27, 1994, Simovic has been a regular member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

During his studies, he worked as an editor and editor-in-chief of the student literary magazine Vidici.

His works have been translated in more than twenty languages.

In addition to poetry and plays, Simovic devotedly wrote essays about Serbian poets and playwrights. This led to the creation of the book Duplo dno, which went through several editions.

Simovic completed primary and secondary school in his hometown, and graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade, from the group for the history of Yugoslav literature and the Serbo-Croatian language.

As performances as a whole, Simovic's plays have won twice at Sterija's Theatre: The SopaloviC Traveling Theatre , performed by the "Yugoslav Drama Theatre", directed by Dejan Mijac, in 1986, and The Miracle in Sargan, performed by the "Serbian National Theatre" from Novi Sad, directed by Egon Savin, in 1993.

He published poetry books as : Slavic Elegies (1958), Happy Graves (1961), Poslednja zemlja (1964), Helmets (1967), Before the Third Roosters (1972), Needle and Thread (1992), Eggshell (1998), Point (2004) and Planeta Danube (2009).

His plays were performed in France, Hungary, Czhez Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Belgium, Croatia, North Macedonia, Canada, Mexico, and Morocco.

On April 28, 2013, the University of Kragujevac, at the proposal of the Faculty of Philology and Arts, awarded Ljubomir Simovic the title of honorary doctor.

He supported the 2024-2025 protests ( a series of mass protests began in Novi Sad after the collapse of the Novi Sad Railway Station canopy , which killed 16 people and seriously injured one). He was a critic of the policies of the SNS and Aleksandar Vucic.
