Virginie Besson-Silla

Biography

Virginie Besson-Silla

Mini bio

  • Virginie Besson-Silla is a prolific Canadian-French film producer known for overseeing a diverse range of international projects, from high-octane action thrillers to acclaimed independent dramas. Born in Ottawa, Canada, to a Senegalese diplomat and a French physiotherapist, she spent much of her childhood traveling globally before beginning her film career in France. She initially joined EuropaCorp as a script reader and assistant in the 1990s, eventually rising to become one of the company's lead producers.

She is best known for producing the global sci-fi hit Lucy (2014) and the visually ambitious Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017). Her extensive credits also include the biographical drama The Lady (2011), the animated feature Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart (2013), and the action-comedy The Family (2013). More recently, she served as a producer for the Paris pickup crew on the multi-Academy Award-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).

Besson-Silla has been married to director Luc Besson since August 28, 2004, and the couple has three children together: Thalia, Sateen, and Mao. She is the sister of actress and author Karine Silla and the sister-in-law of actor Vincent Perez.
