Shravan Rathod was a renowned Indian music director and composer, best known as one half of the celebrated music director duo Nadeem-Shravan, alongside Nadeem Saifi. He made a significant contribution to Hindi film music and became one of the most successful composers of the 1990s and early 2000s.

Born in Rajasthan, Shravan Rathod came from a distinguished musical family. His father, Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod, was a celebrated classical musician in the Dhrupad tradition. Being born into a musical family, Shravan developed a deep interest in music from an early age. He began learning the tabla at the age of five, and by the age of seven, he was accompanying his father in musical performances. His early exposure to Indian classical music played an important role in shaping his career as a music composer.

Shravan and Nadeem were introduced to each other by their common friend, Harish Boppaiya, at a college festival in 1972. The two began working together in 1973. Their first film assignment was Bachubhai Shah's Bhojpuri film Dangal (1977), starring Sujit Kumar and Prema Narayan.

The duo achieved their major breakthrough with Aashiqui (1990), which became one of the most successful and memorable soundtracks in Hindi cinema. The success of Aashiqui established Nadeem-Shravan among the leading music directors of Bollywood and marked the beginning of a highly successful period in their career.

They went on to create music for numerous successful Hindi films, including Saajan (1991), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Phool Aur Kaante (1991), Sadak (1991), Deewana (1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Damini (1993), Raja Hindustani (1996), Pardes (1997), Sirf Tum (1999), Dhadkan (2000), Kasoor (2001), Raaz (2002), Andaaz (2003), and Dosti: Friends Forever (2005).

Phool Aur Kaante (1991) featured popular music by Nadeem-Shravan and marked the Hindi film debut of Ajay Devgn. The film's soundtrack became popular with audiences and further established the duo's reputation for creating memorable melodies.

Nadeem-Shravan became particularly known for their melodic, romantic, and emotionally rich compositions. Their music played a major role in shaping the sound of Hindi film music during the 1990s and early 2000s. Their songs were performed by leading playback singers of the era, including Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, and Anuradha Paudwal.

The duo received major recognition for their work and won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for Aashiqui (1990), Saajan (1991), Deewana (1992), and Raja Hindustani (1996). Their music for these films became particularly popular and contributed significantly to the films' success.

Shravan Rathod was the elder brother of playback singers Roop Kumar Rathod and Vinod Rathod. His sons, Sanjeev Rathod and Darshan Rathod, later became music composers and worked together as the duo Sanjeev-Darshan.

Shravan Rathod died on 22 April 2021, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, at the age of 66. He is remembered for his significant contribution to Hindi cinema and for the timeless melodies created during his celebrated partnership with Nadeem Saifi. His work with Nadeem-Shravan remains an important part of the musical history of Hindi cinema.
