Himani Shivpuri is a veteran Indian actress, widely respected for her versatile and impactful performances across Hindi cinema and television. Born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, she completed her early education at The Doon School and D.A.V. College, later earning a degree in Organic Chemistry. Deeply inspired by her father, a Hindi teacher and poet known by the pen name Shailesh, she developed a passion for dramatics from an early age. She went on to receive formal training from the National School of Drama (NSD), graduating in 1982.

Shivpuri began her professional journey with theatre, where her expressive performances quickly drew attention. She made her film debut with Ab Ayega Mazaa (1984) and soon became known for her powerful presence in both parallel and commercial cinema. She appeared in art films like Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1992) and Mammo (1994), while simultaneously rising to fame in mainstream Bollywood.

Although primarily known as a character actress, she has delivered memorable roles in numerous acclaimed films, including Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Anjaam (1994), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Koyla (1997), Pardes (1997), Daag: The Fire (1999), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001). Her later work includes performances in Umrao Jaan (2006), Nanu Ki Jaanu (2018), and Binny and Family (2024).

She has collaborated with several of India's most prominent production houses, including Yash Raj Films, Rajshri Productions, and Dharma Productions, making significant contributions to their landmark projects.

In television, Shivpuri made a strong impact with her debut role as Devki Bhojai in the Doordarshan series Humrahi. She continued to receive acclaim in shows such as Hasratein (Zee TV), Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, India Calling, Ghar Ek Sapna, and Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein. Known for both emotional depth and comic timing, she has also appeared in light-hearted series such as Sumit Sambhal Lega, Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai, and Doli Armaano Ki.

Since 2019, she has portrayed the beloved character Katori "Katto" Amma in the &TV sitcom Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, further showcasing her comedic talent and enduring popularity.

In addition to mainstream films and serials, Shivpuri has participated in short films and documentaries, such as The Facebook Generation (2012), which was featured in student film circuits.
