    Distinguished British art director, who began as a junior assistant in the art department at Ealing under the auspices of Edward Carrick and Clifford Pember. He was involved with naval camouflage during wartime service, then joined Cineguild in 1947. Shingleton was assigned a number of prestige pictures, including "Great Expectations", "The African Queen" and "The Blue Max" (for which he won a BAFTA in 1966). He also devoted time lecturing on art direction at schools and youth clubs.
