Widely known as one of the first "Nation’s First Love" and affectionately remembered as "forever Daseul", she defined the emotional tone of Korean film and television during the 1990s.

Shim Eun-ha rose to prominence after debuting through a major broadcast audition, quickly capturing public attention with leading roles in highly popular television dramas. Her gentle, intelligent, and emotionally resonant image made her a cultural phenomenon, with audiences deeply connecting to her restrained yet expressive performances. She is married to a Korean politician and an engineering researcher, Sang Wook Ji in 2005. They have two daughters. Her husband ran an election for mayor of Seoul in 2010 but did not win the election.

In 2001, she announced her retirement from acting.
