Mini bio

  • Olga Shevkunenko was born to Yuri and Polina Shevkunenko, both actors. The family spent 1945-1952 in occupied Germany where her parents worked in Soviet Army Theatre. In 1953 the family returned to Moscow. In 1955 her father gave up his acting career and became a writer. The same year he started working at the Mosfilm studios as literary editor (in fact a censor). In 1963 Olga started at Mosfilm as apprentice assistant editor and moved very fast up to the rank of editor. In 1967 she was accepted to VGIK (State institute of Cinema) majoring in screen writing. She left USSR with her husband in 1972. Her younger brother Sergei has become a popular child actor a had a huge fan-base, but due to behavioral problems and despite his popularity film directors avoided him, and his career declined. Instead of becoming a huge movie star he became a huge criminal authority in Moscow. Olga's mother and brother were killed in their Moscow apartment on February 11th, 1995.
