- Elaine Shepard was born on April 2, 1913 in Olney, Illinois, USA. She was an actress, known for Topper (1937), Darkest Africa (1936) and Law of the Ranger (1937). She died on September 6, 1998 in New York City, New York, USA.
- Stage and screen actress who began in films as a heroine of the Republic serial "Darkest Africa". After her acting career wound down, she became a freelance journalist and writer, best known for her Vietnam War coverage, which became the basis for her 1967 book "The Doom Pussy", the first book on Vietnam to chronicle aerial combat.
- Carried on a long-standing feud with fellow columnist Dorothy Kilgallen.
- Appeared on the cover of Yank magazine and Cosmopolitan in the 1940's.
