Biography

Steve Sekely was born on February 25, 1899 in Budapest, Austria-Hungary [now Hungary]. He was a director and producer, known for Boy, the Noszty (1938), The Fabulous Suzanne (1946) and Die große Sehnsucht (1930). He was married to Klára Makoldy and Irén Ágay. He died on March 9, 1979 in Palm Springs, California, USA.

2/6/39: Signed by Grand National and will direct one of the upcoming features with that company. He has directed more than 40 features in Paris, Berlin and his native Budapest, and has been in the US for three months.

Hungarian-born director, a former journalist. From 1930 he made films in his own country, as well as in Germany. In Hollywood from 1939, he turned out mostly routine low-budget features for Poverty Row companies like PRC, Monogram, Grand National and Eagle Lion. Did arguably his best work on a minor film noir, Hollow Triumph (1948), and the cult sci-fi The Day of the Triffids (1963) (although he had a British co-director on that one).
