Biography

After graduating the San Francisco Art Institute, Richard Sears made his short film, An Evil Town. The screenplay was adapted from a short story by the late author, Charles Bukowski. The film went on to win many awards including Cannes - Le Semaine de la Critique and The New York Underground Film Festival. Following this achievement, Sears filmed Bongwater (1997), the film featured a relatively unknown cast featuring Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Brittney Murphy, Alicia Witt, Andy Dick, Scott Caan and Jeremy Sisto. The film premiered at the LA Independent Film Festival and has gone on to become a cult-classic.

Also during this time, enlisted by Weiden & Kennedy Advertising Agency to do an ESPN campaign, Sears embarked on his commercial directing career that has spanned over 10 years and has produced over 100 commercials.

Additionally, Sears has written and directed short films for Canal Plus/France, Nissan, University of Phoenix and Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Sears films have played at numerous festivals around the world including Cannes, Rotterdam, San Sebastian, Berlin, Toronto, Houston, Sonoma and Palm Springs.

Currently, Mr. Sears is an Executive Creative Director of experiential / immersive events @ Experiential Studio. He creates experiences using AR/VR, theming, props, content and interactive storytelling to immerse audiences in a story-based experience. He has teamed with Marvel Studios to produce Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. He also created and directed - Transformers: Autobots Alliance for Hasbro Studios / VHE.

Sears cast his film instructor and underground filmmaker, George Kuchar, in his first feature film "Bongwater".

After seeing Tenacious D at Club Largo, Sears asked them to perform a song in Bongwater and Jack Black to play the part of Devlin.

After working on Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. with Marvel Studios as a creative producer, Mr. Sears was tasked with creating an interactive experience for Transformers and Hasbro. He created and directed the immersive/interactive experience in 10 months and it opened in China on 1/2/2018. The experience features Optimus Prime and his Autobots and utilizes VR / AR interactive gaming and features an original CGI animated film in 4D. Transformers: Autobots Alliance continues to tour Asia through 2020.
