Willi Schur

Trivia

Willi Schur

  • Balding character actor, operatic singer and stage director. Made his theatrical debut, initially in comedic roles, in 1906. In 1916, Schur was briefly artistic director of the Thalia-Theater in Chemnitz and, in 1921, of the Walhalla-Operettentheater in Halle/Saale. On the screen, he found himself most often typecast as burglars, vagrants, con artists, pirates or murderers, but was equally convincing at portraying eccentrics or hapless misfits.
  • With his engagements to Nuremberg and Berlin he achieved the height of his theater career.
  • Because of his convincing performance of lawless characters and figures of the plain people he was often pinned down to such roles. It was only granted rarely to him to impersonate contrary characters on the big screen.
  • He was not only active as an actor but also directed plays and was the theater director at the Thalia-Theater in Chemnitz.
  • He died in 1940 after a long illness.
  • Willi Schur also realised two short movies as a director in 1935.
  • The actor Willi Schur began his theater career in 1906 as a comedian, it followed engagements in Oldenburg and Bremen.
  • Willi Schur made his film debut in 1920 with the movie "Die Banditen von Asnières". But only from the 30's followed many movies in which he impersonated impressive support roles, especially his performances as a villain got an exceptional appeal.
