- Greta Schröder was a German actress. She is best known for the role of Thomas Hutter's wife in the 1922 silent film Nosferatu. In the fictionalized 2000 film, Shadow of the Vampire, she is portrayed as having been a famous actress during the making of Nosferatu, but in fact she was little known.
The peak of her career was during the 1920s, and she continued to act well into the 1950s, but by the 1930s her roles had diminished to only occasional appearances.
Greta Schröder died on 8 June 1980 at the age of 87.

- With the birth of her son she retired from the public temporarily, only from 1920 she took part again in some movies and acted regularly on stage.
- The German Magazin "Filmkunst" from 1975 mentioned that she was still alive in 1975 and living in Berlin. There are rumors that she died in 1980 in Berlin.
- Despite the retention of her family she fulfilled her wish to become an actress. She took acting lessons and she made her stage debut at the theater Berlin by Max Reinhardt. Shortly afterwards she also appeared in her first movie "Die Insel der Seligen" (1913) directed by Max Reinhardt.
- Because her focus was on the theater she only acted in few more movies of the 20s. Still she was able to leave a permanent impression thank to several well-known movies. Especially her leading role in the legendary "Nosferatu" (1922) at Max Schreck's side granted her an entry into film history. Despite these early success she did not play again in movies in the next years. Only from 1937 she acted again in front of the camera.
- Besides her activity as an actress Greta Schröder also wrote the screenplays for "Zucker und Zimt" (1915) and "Das Phantom der Oper" (1916).
