- Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts.
- 1983 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he met his wife and was a member of the famed Mask & Wig comedy troupe. A classmate was the late Alan Kirschenbaum.
- Fan of the Boston Red Sox; favorite player is Carl Yastrzemski. Also likes ice hockey.

- He won a Peabody as a Producer/Writer on "Men of a Certain Age" in 2010.
