G. David Schine in Batman (1966)

Trivia

G. David Schine

  • Scion of a wealthy family, Schine became infamous in the 1950s as an aide to the virulently anti-Communist and (seemingly) anti-homosexual demagogue Sen. Joseph McCarthy and his assistant Roy M. Cohn, who were later disgraced. These two moved heaven and earth to keep Schine out of the military draft, without success; Schine, to understate, did not take well to army life and his complaints drew much negative attention during the "Army-McCarthy Hearings." For example, he asked for Reveille to be delayed because he did not like to get up so early in the mornings, and he also asked for fur-lined boots to replace regulation Army issue. After McCarthy's death, he married the former Miss Sweden and Miss Universe (1955).
  • On June 19, 1996, died in an airplane crash along with his wife & son Berndt, who was piloting their private plane. Following an engine failure seconds after takeoff from Burbank Airport, the plane crashed in a field adjacent to the freeway while attempting an emergency landing.
  • Raised in Gloversville, New York, a city of about 20,000 located 40 miles northwest of Albany. The Schine family owned a huge number of movie theaters, and some hotels, throughout the northeastern USA. Schine died in a private plane crash which also claimed the lives of his wife and his son Frederick, who was the pilot.
  • Graduated from Harvard.
  • Is portrayed by Jeffrey Nordling in Citizen Cohn (1992).
  • Is portrayed by Matt Visser in Fellow Travelers (2023).
