Biography

Ernst August Schepmann was born on June 21, 1931 in Hattingen/Ruhr, Germany. He is an actor, known for Der Hund von Baskerville (1955), 1911 (2011) and Da Vinci's Demons (2013).

After graduating from high school in his hometown of Hattingen in 1951 at the Waldstraße high school, he studied from 1951 to 1953 at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater. He then had engagements at the Theater im Zimmer and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.

In addition to his work as an actor, he took part in many radio plays and readings. In the audio book section, he is represented both with readings for children, for example "Der kleine Brüllbär feiert Weihnachten" (The Little Roaring Bear Celebrates Christmas) by Ingrid Uebe, and with audio books for adults, such as Dürrenmatt's classic "Die Panne" (The Panne).

Schepmann, who worked with many important directors, showed himself to be a dominant, intellectual actor "with an almost bizarre grandeur" in numerous roles.

From 1953 to 1960 he was engaged at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden. From 1960 to 1963 and again from 1985 to 1990 he acted at the Schauspiel Frankfurt. From 1963 to 1969 and again from 1979 to 1985, Schepmann played at the Stuttgart State Theater and from 1969 to 1979 at the Hanover State Theater.
