Scheib was music director of Terrytoons from 1930 to 1968.

Terrytoons boss Paul Terry prohibited Scheib from quoting popular songs in his scores, because he did not want to pay licensing fees. Throughout his career at the studio Scheib relied on original themes or public domain music.

In the making of a Terrytoons short, the soundtrack came first. Scheib would gather his musicians, the voice actors and Foley artists into a studio and record everything in sequence in a single take, in the manner of performing a live radio show. (Pre-recorded sounds like gunshots or water effects were added in post). The animation was then created to fit the soundtrack.

Scheib's theme music for TV's long-running The Heckle and Jeckle Show (1956) wasn't originally composed for the series. It was recycled from a chase scene in the H&J short The Super Salesman (1947).
