- Ferdinando Scarfiotti was born on March 6, 1941 in Potenza Picena, Marche, Italy. He was a production designer and art director, known for The Last Emperor (1987), Toys (1992) and Death in Venice (1971). He died on April 30, 1994 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
- According to Paul Schrader, Scarfiotti removed wall art and wrapped his motel room furniture in white paper while working on Cat People (1982) because he was so offended by the blandness of American motels and their interior decor.
- Italian production designer, trained in architecture. Designed for operas, before being encouraged by Luchino Visconti to work in motion pictures. He won a BAFTA for his work on Visconti's "Death in Venice" (1971). He was also a noted collaborator on several of Bertolucci's films, Oscar winner for "The Last Emperor" in 1988.
