Andrew Scarborough is known for his starring roles in Downton Abbey, The War Below, and Hearts and Bones. He was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. He had a classical training in acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London where he studied the works of Shakespeare, Chekhov, Ibsen, and many other famous playwrights.

Andrew was expelled from Harrogate Grammar School for not turning up for lessons. He says he hated school and often played truant. It was his father who suggested he become an actor, remembering how good he was as a seven-year-old playing King Herod in a school nativity play, and vetoing his other job choices as being too lazy to get up early, so the army was no good, and he couldn't draw, so being an artist was out of the question.
