Bidu Sayão was born on May 11, 1902 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was married to Giuseppe Danise and Walter Mocchi. She died on March 12, 1999 in Lincolnville, Maine, USA.

Brazil's most sucessful sopranist opera singer. Opera singer. Made U.S. debut in Carnegie Hall in 1934. Sang in the Metropolitan Opera 1936-1952.

The "Bidu Sayão International Vocal Competition" held in Brazil each year is named in her honor.
